Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
- Cream softened butter until fluffy; gradually add sugar until smooth.
- Beat in eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract until combined.
- Gradually stir in buttermilk until well mixed.
- Divide the batter between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While cooling, prepare the frosting by heating coconut flakes, pecans, evaporated milk, egg yolks, sugar, and butter in a saucepan until thickened (about 10 minutes).
