Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt until blended.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar and vegetable oil until combined. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined, then fold in the red food coloring.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool before frosting with cream cheese frosting.
