Description

A patty melt is a delightful sandwich that combines a juicy beef patty with gooey Swiss cheese and sweet caramelized onions, all nestled between crispy rye bread. This comfort food classic is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re enjoying a cozy night in or hosting a game day gathering. With its irresistible aroma and rich flavors, the patty melt promises to bring everyone together for a deliciously satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients by slicing the onion and measuring out the beef.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add the sliced onions. Sauté until golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Season ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into patties. Cook in another skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Top each cooked patty with Swiss cheese, cover briefly until melted.
  5. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Layer the cheese-covered patties and caramelized onions on unbuttered sides, then top with another slice of bread (butter side up).
  6. Grill sandwiches in the skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
